
AHMAD MOHAMMED AL SAYED
Minister of Foreign Trade of the State of Qatar
Ahmad Mohammed Al Sayed is the newly appointed minister of Foreign Trade of the State of Qatar. Until September 2024, he served as Minister of State and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Free Zones Authority (QFZA), Qatar.
Earlier, Al Sayed served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and Qatar Holdings and was a member of the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investment.
At the QIA, Al Sayed played a critical role in building, overseeing, and managing the Qatar Sovereign Wealth Fund and executed deals such as the Qatar Investment Authority/Qatar Holding's investment in Credit Suisse and Barclays Bank. He also engineered the merger of VW and Porsche, Xstrata and Glencore. He managed Songbird and Canary Wharf Group's take-over and the acquisition of Harrods Group, Iberdrola Energy, Tiffany, and Heathrow Airport.
He holds an MBA with Trium Global (from LSE, NYU Stern, HEC Paris), a Master of International Banking and Financial Law from Boston University, and an LLB from Qatar University. In July 2019, Swansea University, United Kingdom, awarded him an honorary degree (DLitt).
